Evelyn Janette Parker, 94, was born in Neskowin, Tillamook County, Oregon on October 24, 1918 and passed away at St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor Washington on November 10, 2012. Her parents were Alan Nicholas and Anna Jennette (Rankin) Sheets. Her grandfather, John Sheets, was the first mayor of Tillamook Oregon. Her mother was born in Gig Harbor and her grandmother (mother’s mother) was a member of the Kimball family who were early Gig Harbor pioneers.
Evelyn graduated from Tillamook High School in 1937 and on June 15, 1940 married Asbery Mixon “Lee” Parker in Tillamook Oregon. They moved to Port Orchard in January 1942 and resided there until his death in 2000. Evelyn then moved into Canterbury Manor in Bremerton in 2001 and lived there until just prior to her death. Evelyn worked in sales for many years, first for Ace Vacuum of Bremerton and later ending her sales career with JC Penney of Bremerton where she sold major appliances until her retirement in 1983. She thoroughly enjoyed gatherings with her family and friends for any occasion and particularly loved entertaining people at a cabin she and her husband built at Lake Cushman. Evelyn had an unwavering faith in God and was a member of the Hillcrest Assembly of God Church in Bremerton, WA.
A consummate mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 60 years, Asbery M. “Lee” Parker (July 4, 2000), her granddaughter Carmen Lynette Parker (Sep. 22, 1972) and her son Allyn Lee Parker (June 19, 2010). Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, Lynda Brooks (John) of Gig Harbor and Holly Harden (Larry) of Port Orchard, eleven grandchildren, Charles Parker (Carmen), Mark Bassen (Kellie), Jami Cupiccia (Lloyd), D. Griffin Bassen (Veronica), Jennifer Powell (Robert), Leslie Clark and Robert Bursmith, Dean Bassen (Donnah), Gregory Clark, Kaleena Anderson (Matthew), John Scott Brooks (Tricia) and Heather Denton (Jeff) plus nineteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Evelyn will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, November 30, 2012 at Hillcrest Assembly of God Church, 6750 State Highway 303 NE, Bremerton. A brief fellowship time with refreshments will immediately follow with graveside burial at Sunset Lane Cemetery in Port Orchard at 2:00 PM.
