Michael Fisher

January 18, 1953 — December 15, 2010

January 18, 1953 - December 15, 2010   Michael Hess Fisher of Port Orchard died peacefully at home, in the arms of his wife Sandi and in the presence of family and friends, knowing he was loved and ending his courageous battle with cancer.   Mike was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Wanda Alane Hess and Leo Leverne Fisher.  He spent his childhood in Southeastern Louisiana and Mississippi where his father worked as a petroleum engineer for Chevron; his fondest memories of those times were of playing in and around the swamps and bayous where he first learned to fish.  Later, he moved to an area just west of New Orleans known as "Fat City" where he met and married the love of his life, Sandra Arps, on May 5, 1979. Mike attended the University of New Orleans and LSU School of Dentistry where he graduated with honors in 1986.  Immediately afterward the family moved to Kitsap County and Mike began his dental practice where for 24 years he was allowed to be a part of his patient’s lives while doing what he loved. Although Mike had an adventurous nature and loved to travel he also enjoyed his life in Port Orchard where he could fish and golf most of the year.  Though he had never seen snow before moving to Washington, this southern boy even learned to ski; being out on the water fishing or up on a mountain skiing with his children and friends, Mike always said, made him feel inspired by the beauty and grandeur of the earth.  Above all, Mike loved his family and was a devoted husband and father who always had time for one more story, another corny joke, singing silly songs or a walk in the woods to explore.  Mike was a man of his word, a loyal and true friend, a role model and mentor for many and one of the kindest human beings any of us ever had the privileged to know. Mike is survived by his wife Sandi, his two daughters Devin C. Fisher and Shannon C. Fisher, his son Brandon C. Fisher and his foster son Scott R. Chavez all of Port Orchard.  Also, his two brothers Stephen T. Fisher (Sandy) of  Mercer Island, WA and Mark L. Fisher (Jan) of Madisonville, LA, as well as his nephews Stephen, Jason, Mark and Matthew and his nieces Eryn, Ally, Ashley and Andrea’, numerous friends and his three dogs, Fritz, Dieter and Buck. At his request there will be no formal service.  The family would be grateful if you would share your memories and stories of Mike at his guestbook below or by mailing them to his dental office, where they will be treasured and preserved.  Instead of flowers the family recommends donations to the Kitsap County Humane Society, the Juvenile Diabetes Association or the Secular Coalition for America in Mike's memory.
