Violet Whaley

Violet M. "Grandma" Whaley Port Orchard, died Friday, April 27, 2012.  She was 78 years old.  She was born on September 1, 1933 in Gering, NE a daughter of the late Conrad and Katherine (Haverick) Kaufman. On Jan. 21, 1951, she married Howard Whaley in Scottsbluff, NE.  She was the head cook at the Longview Nursing Home.   Anyone who knew "grandma" knew her greatest occupation was caring for her family and friends.  She was thought of as the "glue" for the Whaley family and will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She is survived by 2 sons Daniel Whaley, Seattle, WA,  David Whaley, Port Orchard, WA; 3 sisters Pat (Alden) King, Mitchel, NE, Betty (Harold) Sommer, Scottsbluff, NE  and Elaine (Leroy) Steege Kennewick, WA; 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Vi was preceded in death by her husband Howard April 28th, 2001, a daughter Candace, on Oct. 2, 2000, a son Larry on March 16th, 2007 and a brother Sonny June, 2010. A remembrance service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the 1st Lutheran Community Church in Port Orchard.
