Ada Stead

Ada Fern Perry Stead, 95, died in Port Orchard on December 4, 1999.  She was born July 19, 1904 on a farm near Westhope, North Dakota to Frank and Huldah (Hiatt) Perry, the youngest of seven children.  She was raised and educated in Westhope and married James Edward Stead on November 21, 1923 in Lyleton Manitoba Canada.  They had one son, Darrell Wayne Stead.The family farmed near Maxbase, North Dakota for 23 years before moving to Minnesota to dairy farm for 10 years at Milaca and Mora.  They moved to Port Orchard, Washington in January 1962 where Ada worked at Retsil Veterans home for 8 years, retiring in 1972.  Ada was very talented including making afghans and doillies.  She was a wonderful pie baker and had a great talent for interior decorating within her home.Surviving are her son Darrell 7 wife Grace; 5 grandsons Lorre & wife Vivian of Olymlpia, Craig of Port Orchard, Ron & Marsha of Olympia, Darwin of Seattle, Kevin & Robyn of Silverdale; 14 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband James 'Jimmie',her siblings, and great-grandson Brian Stead.Funeral Service Thursday, December 9, 1999 at 12:00 Noon at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.  Interment will be at Sunset Lane Cemetery in Port Orchard.
