Aimee Genevieve Sundberg

August 9, 1926 — December 23, 2013

Aimee Sundberg, 87, of Port Orchard, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2013 at Life Care Center of Port Orchard surrounded by family and friends. She was born August 9, 1926 in Olympia, Washington to Herman and Pensa (Turner) Kline. She spent her formative years there; attending school and playing trumpet and french horn in the school’s marching band. Aimee graduated from William Winlock Miller High School in 1944. After graduation, Aimee worked as a stenographer from 1944-1951. First, for the Department of War in St. Louis, Missouri, next for the State of Washington Dept of Finance Budget and Business Division of Purchasing, and finally, as a Deputy County Clerk at the Thurston County Superior Court.

Aimee met Harry O. Sundberg on a blind date set up by a mutual friend. Although they were both wary of the blind date, they went out of respect for their friend. They were married shortly thereafter on December 1, 1951 in Olympia. Aimee and Harry set up their first household in Bremerton, where she worked as a stenographer for Seattle First National Bank from 1952-54. She then began her career at home, raising their four children. In 1963, the family moved to Port Orchard and the family actively attended Christian Life Center. Aimee served as the Church Treasurer at Christian Life Center from 1964 to 1989. She also taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served as a youth leader, Sunday School Superintendent, Women’s Ministries President, Bible study leader, Prime Timer’s leader, and the gracious hostess of many church and family picnic’s at “Sundberg Park.” Aimee was a great woman of faith and she mentored many along the way. She was also active in the community: Bowling League, Cub Scout Den Mother, PTA (Givens, Cedar Heights and South Kitsap High School), SK Western Little League, Cancer Society and The Heart Fund. She also loved gardening, was known as the “church historian”, had an amazing wit and sense of humor, and was an avid Mariners baseball fan.

Aimee leaves behind a wonderful legacy to her family. They include her beloved sons Brian Sundberg (Debbie), David Sundberg (Barbara) of Port Orchard, Greg Sundberg (Kathy) of Snoqualmie, and beloved daughter Kristi Sundberg of Port Orchard. Grandchildren: Paul Stead, Brandon Sundberg (Kelly), Angela Fenton (Scott), Trevor Sundberg (Cassie), Monica Sundberg, Beki Gordon (Max), Courtney Martin (Brian), and Hayley Young (Ryan). Great grandchildren: Ashley & Riley Stead, Solomon & Jovie Sundberg, Elle & Luke Fenton, Anastaesia Sundberg, Brighton & Asher Gordon. Sisters: Stella Digman, Rose Anderson and JoAnne Kline of Olympia, WA, and Ethel Briggs of California. Brother Ron Kline of Centralia and sister-in-law Bobbye Kline of Tumwater. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, her parents, and grandson Brian Stead.

Graveside service will be January 4, 2014 at 11:30 am, Sunset Lane Memorial Park, 1000 Bethel Avenue, Port Orchard. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm, Christian Life Center, 1780 SE Lincoln Avenue, Port Orchard.

We are so thankful for the care Aimee received from the nurses and staff at Life Care Center for the last 9 months. Their kindness to her and our family was remarkable.
