Alan L. Fantz was born on February 27, 1936 in Bremerton, WA to Clara and William Fantz. After a courageous fight with heart disease, Al went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 2, 2012. Al was a patient and compassionate man that always made time for those in need. He was a loving husband, father, papa, brother, friend and uncle. Within his military career, Al was often described as a Soldier’s Soldier - “Al the Soldier’s Pal”. Alan proudly served his country for over 41 years in the US Army – National Guard: Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, Sr. Supply Service Sergeant, Auditor, Purchasing/Contracting; ultimately earning his rank of Command Sergeant Major. Al was one of the founding partners to establish the SK Pee Wee program in Port Orchard. He continued supporting youth programs and his community by being actively involved in his children's sports activities, boy scouts, and horse shows. Al loved his hobby of restoring classic cars/hot rods with his sons and friends. Al was a member of the Puget Sound Early Bird – Thunderbird Club and Bad Example Car Club. Al was much loved by his friends at the Kitsap Marina where he found an opportunity to combine work and his passion for boating. He was preceded in death by his sons Randy and Bruce Fantz, brother Bill Fantz and sister Beverly Fantz. Al is survived by his loving wife Karen of 40 years and children: Brian Fantz (wife Tracy), Mike Waara (wife Sandy), Stacey Coutts (husband David), and Brooke Dickerson (husband Jason) with 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and his sister, Esther Kirk. Throughout his life, Al enjoyed spending time at his house in Ocean Shores with his wife, dogs, and loving neighbors. Al attended First Christian Church of Port Orchard where his Celebration of Life will be held May 19th at 11:00 am.
