Albert L. Gauvin, Jr., 85 of Port Orchard, died May 23, 2012. He was born May 11, 1927 in Aberdeen, WA to Albert Louis & Marie (Siese) Gauvin, Sr. He graduated from Hoquiam HS in 1945 and the University of WA in 1950. He married Dorothy Rice on December 8, 1972. Albert served in the U.S. Navy for 28 years, retiring on June 30, 1973 as a Commander. He earned numerous medals for Pacific and Korean service. After retirement, he worked for the City of Houston as Chief of Administration for the Health Department from 1973-1979 and Waste Water Division from 1979 until 1984. Albert loved to write letters to former shipmates and to shut-ins. He liked sending birthday, anniversary & Christmas cards. He sent packages of jokes, cartoons, etc., to shut-in seniors over the past several years. He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, ran the Blood Drive at St. Gabriel’s for 8 years, was a member of Port Orchard Kiwanis, Military Officers of America, Bremerton Council of Navy League, Fleet Reserve Association & Elks of Bremerton. Surviving are wife Dorothy; sons Steven (Shirley) of Coronado, CA, Jeffry Paul of Priest River, ID & Christopher of Liberty Lake, WA; stepson Mark (Harlene) Simpson of Houston, TX; daughters Julia of Houston, TX, Suzette of Washington DC; stepdaughter Barbara (Will) Wood; sister Sally Jo Pascoe of Hoquiam, WA; nieces Deanne, Katherine & Sandra; grandchildren James, Timothy, Brian, Matthew, Kaylen, Jackson, Charles, Francesca, Kathryn, Carolyn, Lauren Claire, Jordan & Lauren Elizabeth; special friends Tom Victory & Warren Van Zee. Preceded in death by his parents. Memorial Service at 10:30am on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard with a reception following.
