Alexander H. Fassbender, 89, a resident of Port Orchard, died September 11, 2008 of natural causes at Messenger House on Bainbridge Island. He was born in Marytown, Wisconsin on July 11, 1919 to Anton and Margaret (Muellenbach) Fassbender. He married Elyce Brunsch on August 11, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his son Andrew J. Fassbender. He served in the USAF from 1940 to 1960 retiring as a Major. He also held the distinction of serving as a Staff Sergeant Pilot in the Army Air Corps. He later worked as a Contracting Officer and Defense Contracts Administrator retiring from Burlingame, California. He was a member of the 318th aka ‘Jungle Skippers’, Knights of Columbus, Elks and the NRA. He was an excellent woodworker, making wonderful children’s toys and there was not a construction project he was afraid to take on . He loved taking care of his family first. He is survived by his wife Elyce; son Alexander G. Fassbender (Li) of Boston, MA; daughters Kathryne Card (David), Susan Plunkett (Dan), Krysteen Seelen (Bill) all of Port Orchard, Kaaren Martin (Jim) of Sunnyvale, CA and Theresa Cox (Ken) of Larwill, IN; sister Estelle Walber of Marytown, WI; grandchildren Michael Card, (John) Michael Coon (Kim), Steven Coon, Kari Mitchell (Kelly), Jimi Martin (Tina), Joshua and Ryan Martin, David Seelen (Rosario), Rachel Seelen, Julia, Andrea and Alexander Fassbender, Jr.; great-grandchildren Kiana Benson, Sydney and Hannah Seelen, Ian Mitchell and Olivia Coon. Interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent on September 26th at 2:45 pm.
