Alfonso Jason Mercado

March 27, 1976 — March 31, 2023

Alfonso Jason Mercado, joined his beloved brother on April 1st, 2023. He was surrounded by friends and family. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden passing; and holds on to the memories of a person whose kindness and generous spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

Jason was born at Madigan Hospital at the United States Army post, Fort Lewis, and grew up traveling with his active military family. Jason’s infectious personality impacted everyone he met through his journey of life. He was known for his soft heart, quick wit, gregarious personality, and energy that brought fun and laughter to anyone in his presence.

Following graduation, he attended the University of Washington and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Jason was driven in his studies; and his high intelligence proved successful in navigating complex computer systems. He leveraged his skills through his career roles as Software Engineer, Lead Software Engineer, and Senior Software Engineer.

Jason was known to be the life of every environment he entered. He loved music, art, drawing, painting, and debating politics and social justice topics. Jason was passionate about his family, friends, and ensuring all people are recognized and included. Jason felt life to his core through his music and art mediums. He captured emotion through his meticulous brush strokes; and communicated his love for music and people through an impressive playlist of eclectic genres. Jason enjoyed his life to the fullest and used his time productively to focus on his many hobbies, friends, and family. Jason could often be heard playing music from his home, car, or Bluetooth (loudly) and he took an active role in the lives of his people close to him.
Jason had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He was often spending his spare time researching topics of interest or reading books. He enjoyed meaningful interactions; and whenever surrounded by company, you could be sure he would seize the opportunity for an adventure and riveting conversations. Jason loved spontaneous plans and never turned down a good road trip, concert, or a new foodie opportunity.

Jason was never scared to take on new opportunities and did everything with honesty and integrity. He had very strong values and was well liked by everyone, due to his positive energy. Jason had incredible charisma, and always made time to show his love. He would say it all comes back to us.

His legacy will carry on forever reminding us that we control our attitudes, choose to live a life of meaningful acts of love and service, and to infuse our minds with his laugh, witty comments, and gregarious personality.

Jason is preceded in death by his brother, Robert, and loved family members.

Jason is survived by his mother, Cathy Mercado; father, Ralph Mercado; brother, Anthony Mercado; sister Katrina Mercado, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
