Alfred George Brown, known to his family and many friends as "Brownie" or "Sonny," died on February 16, 2012 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bremerton, Washington on 7/4/1927 to Alexander Oliver Valentine Brown and Edna Fay (Cribb) Brown. He had a sister and two brothers, Verna May Jackson, Robert (Claudia) Brown, and Richard (Donna) Brown. He was preceded in death by his brother Bob, sister Verna, and granddaughter Anna Marie McIntosh. He had three daughters Teresa (Curtis) Timmerman, Diane (Ken) McIntosh, and Vicky Schmitt (Dan Wood). Alfred loved his daughters very much and treasured every minute that he had with them. On December 17, 1972 he married Barbara Jean Trummert Davidson. They were happily married for 39 wonderful years. He was a loving "Papa" to her children Deborah (Gary) Chrey, Dennis Davidson, and Christine (Dan) Case. At the age of 15 he began working to help support his family and at 17 he joined the merchant marines, serving on Liberty ships at the end of World War II. In 1946 he joined the army and was discharged in 1948. After that he worked at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Shop #99, retiring on July 2, 1982. After Barbara retired, they spent their days together repairing and maintaining unoccupied homes for his brother Dick's real estate company. They had many pleasant days being together, working, and going to lunch throughout Kitsap County. He began taking care of people as a teenager and continued throughout his life. If a car didn't run, if a water heater was broken, or if a move to a new home was planned, Alfred was always there to help. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home to Lincoln City in Oregon, to the Washington coast, and to Eastern Washington. He was a lifelong member of the Elks Club. He has eight surviving grandchildren; Adam Timmerman, Mark Timmerman, Dina Doughty, Shannon Stadvolz, John Coble, Dylan Coble, Laura Schmitt, and Mathew Ward and 12 great grandchildren and two great grandchildren. His family is very grateful for the kind and wonderful care that he received from physicians, nurses, and staff members during the almost five weeks that he spent in the intensive care unit at the hospital. Alfred's family would also like to extend our best wishes and prayers to all of the wonderful families and their loved ones that we met in the intensive care waiting room during the five weeks he was ill. All of you are very special to us and we will never forget the time we shared.
