Angelina Guatelara Blevins

Angelina Guatelara Blevins was born in Valladolid, Negros Occidental, Philippines May 10, 1934 to Faustino J. and Catalina Macaranga Guatelara. She attended elementary school in Valladolid. She graduated from Negros Occidental High School, Bacolod City, Neg. Occ., Philippines in 1953. She graduated from the University of Negros Occidental/Negros Occidental Provincial Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. After passing the Philippine National Boards for Nursing, she was hired at the Negros Occidental Provincial Hospital as a staff nurse. She worked there till 1964 when she was awarded a two year Graduate Nurse Exchange Program position. She came to the United States that year and spent one year at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. She then transferred to the St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, NJ. After one year there, she accepted a position at Knud-Hansen Hospital in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. She served on the staff at Knud-Hansen from 1966 to June 1969. She worked on the Medical Floor, the Obstectrics Floor and when the hospital obtained a dialysis machine, she was one of two nurses that were trained to operate the equipment and care for the dialysis patients. She held this position the last year and a half before leaving employment at Knud-Hansen Hospital. In 1967 David Giles Blevins came to work at Knud-Hansen as a Medical Technologist. After two years of courtship, they were married on June 21, 1969. They moved from St. Thomas to Seattle, WA after the marriage, arriving in Seattle in August of 1969. Dave and Angie were blessed with two children, Philip David and Howard Lee. Philip was born with Downs Syndrome and has spent his life with Dave and Angie. He remains at home in Manchester, WA. Angie gave up her nursing career and devoted her life to making Phil’s life as pleasant and loving as possible. Lee is married to Norah “Kiki” Franklin and they have two children, Lily Kate and Julia Elisabeth. They live in Burbank, CA. Angelina was preceded in death by her parents Faustino & Catalina Guatelara, brothers Ismael, Jose, Romeo and Eduardo, sisters Conception, Angelina M., Lizette, Milagros and Celia. She is survived by her husband David G., sons Philip David and Howard Lee (Norah), granddaughters Lily Kate and Julia Elisabeth Franklin Blevins, brothers, Fernando and Faustino, Jr. (Cecile) Guatelara, sister, Anabel Sanchez (Sergio, Jr.) and brothers-in-law, Don, Bill (Barbara) and Jack (Mary) Blevins and sister-in-law Lou Ann Brewer. She will be entombed at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA and Valladolid Catholic Cemetery, Valladolid, Neg. Occ., Philippines. Please, no flowers.
