Anthony (Tony) DelBarto, age 60, a resident of Port Orchard, Washington, passed away in his home on Wednesday, October 9th, 2024.
Anthony was born on January 21st, 1964, in Queens, New York to his parents Frank and Mary (Condon) Del Barto.
Anthony’s life was dedicated to helping and fiercely protecting others. And we know that even now, he is and will continue to look over and protect all he knew and loved.
Prior to graduating High School, Tony entered the US Army as a Reservist in March of 1981, enlisting into Active Duty in January of 1983, and retiring February 2008. His time in the Army took him all over the world and allowed him the opportunity to support his country and his fellow troops in many different ways. Tony was the one that everyone knew they could count on to get things done and receive the benefits they deserved, even after his active duty time ended and during his retirement, which was recognized by the amount of titles of his awards and commendations that he received during his time of service.
Another important aspect of his life was his Firefighting and EMS service and his fellow brothers/sisters in service. We cannot even begin to list the Fire Stations that he was connected to-all through the country and thank each and every one of you for your friendship. You meant the world to him and know he is watching each new rig you bring onboard and probably criticizing you if you don’t have a Federal added to your trucks.
Tony enjoyed watching (and coaching from the couch) many sports and if you were not a fan of any New York team, he let you know that you should be, and that your team(s) will never compare to his. But the sport that meant the most to him was youth hockey. Watching his son grow up playing, and all the lifetime friends and family that we gained throughout those years through hockey, meant the world to him. I think we counted over 20 billet kids that lived in our home over the years, and he has a story for every single one of them (and for some of them-many, many stories). Tony volunteered with the American Red Cross, was a lifetime member of the Gig Harbor VFW and a member of the Gig Harbor Eagles.
The most important thing to Anthony was his family, friends and his pets. He is survived by his wife Penny (Mitchell) DelBarto, son Christopher Mitchell, grandson Levi Mitchell; sister Mary (Ron) Furry, brothers: Frank (Eri) and Michael (Laura); mother and sister-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families; and many close friends along with their respective children.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Mary (Condon) Del Barto along with his pets Koko, Ginger, Mitch, Sasha, and Bo.
A Columbarium Ceremony will take place the morning of November 2nd, 2024, 10:30am at the Artondale Cemetery in Gig Harbor and will be followed by a reception starting at 11:30am at the Port Orchard Church of Christ, 4135 Carr Ln SE, Port Orchard 98366. All are invited and welcome to both, but please know that parking is extremely limited at the Cemetery and carpooling is encouraged. There is plenty of parking available at the church. Because of Tony’s love of his sports teams, dress is casual and if you have team attire you would like to wear, please do so! He’d love to see it all (even if it is the Seahawks, lol)
