Anton “Tony” Demianiw, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, of Port Orchard, died November 12, 2015.
Tony was born on February 11, 1946 to John and Gladys Demianiw in Bremerton, WA. He spent his childhood in Bremerton, growing up on a large plot of land with a tiny two bedroom house, making it cozy for him and his parents. Tony spent his childhood building go-carts and tinkering with cars.
After graduating from East High School in Bremerton in 1964, Tony joined the National Guard and served for four years as a heavy equipment mechanic. He began work in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1964 as an apprentice in Shop 17-Sheet Metal . He worked there for 32 years and retired in 1996.
Mutual friends introduced Tony to his wife, Sharon, whom he married in 1967. In 1968, they moved into the house in Port Orchard in which he would live for the rest of his life. The birth of their son, Scott, was one of Tony’s happiest moments. Scott participated in Boy Scouts and Tony was a huge part of that experience for Scott, volunteering for camping/hiking trips and serving as the Assistant Scoutmaster.
Tony was a “Car Guy”, and more specifically, a “Ford Guy.” He passed on his love of Fords to his son and while Scott was in high school, they bought a 1965 Ford Mustang that was in bad shape and they restored it to original as a father/son project. Now that vehicle is one of Scott’s prized possessions and a true reminder of all that he loved about his dad. Tony loved restoring old cars and making them into true works of art. His prized project was his 1940 Ford that he remodeled twice! He was a long time member of the Saints Car Club and could always be found volunteering at The Cruz Car Show in Port Orchard each August.
While Tony will likely be remembered as quiet and thoughtful, he was also one of the most likeable people you could ever meet. His network of friends stretched far and wide. Tony could always be relied on to help in any situation and he was the guy that everyone called upon whenever they needed help with any project or question. He was also really funny and would always get a certain twinkle in his eye when he had a new joke to tell.
One of the biggest joys of Tony’s life was his relationship with his grandchildren, Sam and Stella. He often volunteered to help take them to sports practices and was always a fixture at their baseball, soccer, and basketball games, cheering them on and praising how well they did. They loved him wholeheartedly and often commented about how hilarious he was.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sharon. Surviving are his son Scott Demianiw, daughter-in-law Kim Demianiw, and grandchildren Sam and Stella Demianiw. He will be deeply missed by his family, co-workers, and many, many friends. He will not be forgotten and he was deeply loved.
A memorial and celebration of his life service is scheduled for Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 11am at Elim Lutheran Church in Port Orchard. A reception will follow.
