On September 26th 2017 the world lost an amazing woman, Barbara Jean Corradi. Barbara was born on October 2, 1942 in Milwaukee Wisconsin to Vila and Everett Clanin, the final addition to a family of seven.
Barbara grew up with three older brothers and one older sister. She loved spending summers at her Aunt and Uncle's farm in northern Wisconsin. She especially loved riding horses and eventually had her own horse, a Tennessee Walker named Duke.
After high school, while working for the Forest Service in Milwaukee, she met a young sailor who was stationed in Great Lakes Illinois, Edward B Corradi. He was soon smitten with her and the two were married on June 13th, 1964. After moving to Mystic Connecticut, due to being stationed at New Groton Connecticut, Barbara and Ed welcomed their first son, Tony on April 5 1965.
Barbara moved often while Ed attended schools or was stationed on different submarines. After their second move to Hawaii, Barbara and Ed made their last edition to their family and Geno was born in Honolulu Hawaii on August 2 1968. Their family complete, Ed continued his service with the Navy.
Barbara thrived as a Navy Wife. She was the rock for the children as her husband was deployed to Vietnam, WestPac, Sixth Fleet and other deployments. The family traveled throughout the country and the world. During Edward's naval career, Barbara lived in Washington, California, Connecticut, South Carolina, Virginia, Rota Spain, Hawaii as well as other duty stations. Barbara enjoyed discovering the areas she lived in, whether it was shopping in the local markets in Spain using broken Spanish, traveling throughout Europe while stationed there or camping in the Great Smokey mountains. Barbara always enjoyed exploring the area she was in and taking as advantage of the hectic Navy life.
Once her boys were older, Barbara continued her education, She attended Olympic College and earned her Data Processing degree. She went to work for the City of Bremerton and enjoyed her work and camaraderie with her co-workers. In 1979, Barbara made her final move during Ed's naval career, the family moved to Norfolk Virginia and lived there for several months before Edward retired from the Navy in 1980.
Since Barbara was from Milwaukee and Edward from Detroit, the family moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to be central to both sides of their families. After one very snowy winter, Barbara and Edward decided to move back to Kitsap county, where they had been stationed five different times and realized they loved the area. Barbara moved back and was rehired by the City of Bremerton.
Barbara and Edward found a property they loved in South Kitsap and built their forever home. After all the moves in the Navy, Barbara was ready to live in the same place for the rest of her life. She wasn't however, ready to quit traveling, the family would go camping all over the US. They would make long road trips across the country to visit family and attend family and high school reunions, weddings and just to visit. Barbara loved riding their Gold Wing, going on Poker Runs and meetups with other groups. Barbara went to work at Tacoma Public Schools in Data Processing, and eventually took a position with Weyerhaeuser, in their IT department as a Systems Programmer.
Barbara retired in 1998, but again, that didn't slow her down. She enjoyed going on cruises with Ed, driving their motorhome all over the country and exploring new places and riding their Gold Wing. Barbara also loved to play Bingo, she would go to different venues and became a regular at a few local Bingo games including the Eagles and Olalla Grange.
Barbara became Edward's primary caregiver after he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. While caring for her husband, Barbara continued to travel with him even after being diagnosed with Breast Cancer. After a successful battle with cancer, she continued to care for Ed as long as she was able. When Barbara could no longer take care of Edward and needed care herself, Geno took over as primary caregiver for both until they moved into Park Vista assisted living in Port Orchard. There, she lived out the remainder of her life.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 53 years, Edward Corradi, brothers Jack Clanin (Anne) and James Clanin(Ethel), sons Tony and Geno Corradi, grandchildren Noelle Corradi (Rachel), Shannon Gomm, Michael Corradi, Ashley Souza, Sarah Corradi and Joshua Corradi and great grandchildren Nathan Corradi, Charlene Gomm and Raye Gomm.
