Berit Riddle passed away peacefully on November 14th, 2024. She was 85. Berit was born to Rolf and Margit Hansen on July 21st, 1939 in Tonsberg, Norway. She was the ninth of 11 children. She grew up in Vale, Vestfold, Norway and attended school in nearby Holmestrand, Norway. When she was 17, she emigrated to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada to live with an aunt and uncle. Her intent with this move was to become more proficient in English and return to Norway to become an English teacher.
She found employment working in a bank. While working at the bank, she met one of the customers named George Riddle. Soon after, they were married. A marriage that lasted nearly 60 years. George and Berit started their family in Victoria and eventually moved to the Puget Sound region of Washington State.
Berit spent most of her life being a homemaker and taking care of her family. That was what brought her the greatest joy and satisfaction in her life. Later in life she was employed as a book keeper in the sheet metal fabrication industry until she retired.
Berit favorite pass time was reading. She would read a novel, sometimes two, nearly every week. She loved international spy type novels, especially ones that took place around World War Two and the Cold War years.
Berit was preceded in death by her loving husband George, her mother and father, a sister and eight brothers and one great grandson. She is survived by her sons and their spouses; Ralph and Kris Riddle of Port Orchard; Brian and Brenda Riddle of Forest Grove, Oregon and her brother Bjorn Hansen of Norway. In addition she is survived by four grandchildren, Marna and Jon Palmer of Olalla, Zach and Rosslyn Riddle of Temecula, California, Sara Riddle of Port Orchard and Lauren Riddle of Portland, Oregon. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
