Memories of 96 Years
Bertha Lee Wattenburger
Born in a farm house in St. John Kansas on August 17, 1919.
My father grew wheat and corn and my mother raised turkeys and chickens and we also had a few milk cows.
I met my first love and future husband, Charles Enoch Hunt at a dance. After Enoch and I were married, we lost our first born, Charles Lee at age six months from pneumonia. Later we were blessed with two sons, Larry and Lonnie.
After WWII, and Charles was honorably discharged from the Army, we moved to Washington State; bought 4 ½ acres in Pasco and built a house. Living in Pasco was eventful and full filling as my sons grew up on the small farm, and they were able to enjoy many wonderful farm experiences, raising calves and riding horses . After the loss of my son, Larry; and living in Pasco, I decided it was time to make a move to Bremerton to live closer to my youngest son, Lonnie. At the age of 89 years, I moved to Canterbury Manor, an independent living facility in Bremerton. Canterbury was a wonderful facility with many activities as well as dining and making ‘new’ friends.
In May 2015, I moved to Claremont Senior Living, a full care nursing facility in Bremerton. I just celebrated my 96 birthday in August and I am in a wonderful senior living facility. I have 24 hr. care and the facility is extremely clean, cheerful and meets all my requirements. Although some days are better than others, I am grateful for the cards, letter and visits from my family and friends. Thank you for being a part of my life. Your thoughtfulness and caring is greatly appreciated.
