Beryl Machinski

January 6, 1941 — July 6, 2019

Beryl was born January 6, 1941 in Toronto, Ontario, CAN to Byron and Florence (Byles) Halpenny. She attended Royal York Collegiate Institute in Etobicoke, in Toronto, CAN.
She was a bit of a pioneer in the online dating game connecting with Rick Machinski in 1999. That connection caused them to come together in February of 2000 when he traveled to Toronto and they met face to face for the first time. She in turn travelled to the US in April of 2000 and the pioneering couple were married on May 6, 2000.
Earlier in her life she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper, but mostly as homemaker. Among her most significant accomplishments were raising her four amazing children Lisa, Anita, Judy, and Michael.
She loved baking, cooking a fact that her husband’s waste line can easily attest to. She also enjoyed sewing and crafts. Using those skills she made blankets, decorative picture frames and other collectables for family and friends. She loved planning events especially any that surrounded family matters such as baby showers and helping with weddings. Sunday dinners with the family were always very important to her as well as holiday gatherings and cooking for them. The only time things got a little complicated was around Thanksgiving because Rick also liked to cook and had ideas for what and how much. Garage sales were another fun factor because she just has a knack for finding the unusual like the world’s ugliest doll according to Rick.
Her favorite place to hang out was Melmerby Beach in little harbor, Nova Scotia, which is also affectionately known as the Merb. Her favorite colors were the earth tones, but she did look really good in red and brighter colors. She liked flowers and gardening, especially fragrant roses.
For many years Beryl suffered in a spiraling of dementia and alzheimers after her initial diagnosis in 2007, but she was generally aware of what was going on around her. perhaps it was all of the little things that kept her going.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her two Labradors Skeeter and Maggie. She is survived by her husband Richard, four children, one brother and one sister, ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
