Betty’s life was filled with fun, family & friends.
She was 19 when married Kenneth Gordon Erickson in International Falls, MN. He was her best friend, companion, and the only true love of her life. They remained happily married for 62 years. Betty & Kenny raised two daughters, Christine and Susan in Virginia, Minnesota.
Betty was a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She spent her life as a homemaker, a fisherwoman, a deer & partridge hunter, an expert scrabble player, a painter & a square dancer. She was an avid book reader and she loved hiking, golfing and traveling. She traveled the world with her husband and her daughters. Visiting Europe, Tahiti, Hawaii, the Bahamas, Mexico, Alaska and even went on an African Safari and slept in a tent in the middle of the Serengeti at age 85.
When Betty & Kenny retired they moved to Apache Junction, AZ and stayed there for 18 years. In 2007, they moved to Washington State and lived independently at Ridgemont Terrace Apartments due to Kenny having Alzheimer’s disease. Betty lovingly assumed full responsibility for the care of Kenny until his death in 2009. She taught us about true love and dedication as she cared for our father and grandfather.
Our fondest memories of Betty was her “let’s go” attitude. She was always ready to have fun and could be ready to go ANYWHERE in 5 minutes!
Her favorite places to be were at family events or at her apartment spending time with her wonderful friends at Ridgemont Terrace, playing cards, calling bingo, attending exercise classes, and walking with her friends each and every day.
Her joyful spirit, her happy smile, her strength and determination will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Christine Garner (husband – Jerry Garner) of Rigby, Idaho, Susan Swaser (husband – Jerry Swaser) of Belfair, WA. Her Grandson Jason Swaser (wife –Debe Swaser) of Allyn, WA and her great grandchildren Jaea & Deakon Swaser, her grand daughter-in-Law, Melanie Wight (husband –Aaron Wight) of Snohomish, WA and her great grandchildren Brayden Wight, Jacob Alan-Swaser Wight, Rea Wight, and Aaron Wight Jr. Betty was preceded in death by her grandson Jeremy Swaser in 2008.
