Betty L. Leonard, 75, of Port Orchard died Thursday at Tacoma General Hospital. She was born in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to George and Lorraine (Strom) Johnson. On September 1, 1959, she married Robert Leonard in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. Mrs. Leonard worked as a painter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for more than 10 years, retiring in 1976. Previously, she had been employed as a waitress and cook at various restaurants in Port Orchard and Bremerton. She took great pride in her cooking skills, loved to garden, was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed hunting and fishing. She also owned race horses which competed at Longacres. Mrs. Leonard was preceded in death by her son, James L. Thompson, in 1970. Surviving are her husband; two sons, Lanny Thompson of Port Orchard and Timothy Thompson of Bremerton; a daughter; JoSan Pritchard of Victor, Montana; a sister, Eloise Gerhart of Olympia; 10 grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; and two nieces. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rill Chapel's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.
