Betty was born in Manchester, Washington to Josephine R Fowler (Regnier) and Bill W Wilson.
Betty attended Olalla Elementary, Marcus Whitman Junior High, and Bend Oregon High School, leaving high school early to marry Wayne. As an adult, Betty received her GED.
Betty was a stay-at-home mom to her three children David, Melinda and Andrea. She loved woodworking, sewing, family genealogy, and arts and crafts. She enjoyed traveling with her husband in their motorhome or on car trips and camping with her grandchildren. One of her favorite places to camp was to go out to Pacific Beach on the Washington State coast. If a storm was coming as she wanted to watch it blow in. Her favorite flowers were carnations of any color and hydrangeas.
Volunteering and giving back to her community was extremely important to Betty. She was on the board of directors for the Kitsap County Chapter of the Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC) for many years. She and her daughters Andrea and Melinda would volunteer on Saturday nights in the kitchen when bingo was happening at ARC. Betty volunteered for the Kitsap Literacy Council helping other adults learn to read. She collected items (clothes, kids toys, etc) to take to Native American reservations here on the Washington coast as well as in central Montana. She and her husband Wayne also helped the homeless in the Kitsap County community in conjunction with Cornerstone Christian Fellowship and Pastor Art Speight through his Taking it to the Streets Ministry. Much of their free time after her husband’s retirement was spent road tripping in their RV and giving back to their community.
Her greatest joy was being able to be present in the delivery room for the birth of both of her grandsons.
Betty is survived by her husband of 63 years Orville (Wayne) Rutledge of Bremerton. Her daughters Melinda Meier (Robbie) of Port Orchard and Andrea Rutledge of Bremerton. Her stepdaughter Cindy Black of Virginia. Her grandsons Perry Boyd (Olivia) of Texas and Cody Meier of Port Orchard and step-granddaughter Amanda Roth (Tommy) of Virginia. Her great-grandchildren Wyatt and Reagan Roth. Her Siblings Bill Wilson (Shirley) of Arizona, Bonnie Mertz (Vic) of Montana, and Charlotte Maier of Belfair.
Betty was proceeded in death by her son David Rutledge and stepson Orville DeWayne Rutledge Jr aka Lonnie Bond as well as both of her parents.
