Beverly & Walter H. Mccullough

d. May 27, 1999

Walter H. McCullough, Jr. passed away at the Evergreen Hospice Center on May 27, 1999 from complications of diabetes.  Walter was born September 21, 1929 in Tacoma into a family of western Washington pioneers.  His paternal grandfather and father owned Tacoma Tug & Barge and his mother's family, the Doyles, homesteaded a farm in the late 1800's in Port Orchard.  Walter chose to be buried at the cemetery on the family farm.Beverly J. (Haywood) McCullough, Walter's wife of 49 years was born March 5, 1929 in Tacoma and died just 18 days earlier on Mother's Day, May 9, 1999.  Beverly passed away peacefully at the Evergreen Hospice Center after a brave, year-long battle with cancer.  During her last few days she was surrounded by her family, and bringing together all of her children and grandchildren on Mother's Day surely meant a great deal to her.  Beverly chose to be cremated and have her ashes scattered in the waters of her beloved Puget Sound. Since 1962, Walter and Beverly resided in East Town Estates in Bellevue where they raised their five children.  Professionally, Walter worked in medical equipment sales.  For many years they also built and maintained the 'beach place' outside LaConner on Pull & Be Damned Road.  There they spent many happy days building new rooms and wings, and entertaining family and friends. They are survived by daughters Susan (Ross) Cook of Bothell, Debi (Warren) Medley of Carnation, Nancy McCullough-McCoy (Michael McCoy) of Teton Valley, Idaho, and Marion (Scott) Hamilton of Gold Bar; son Michael (Jane) of Seattle; and grandchildren Scott, Sarah, Marc, Brianna, Elise, Keely, and Morgan.Beverly was preceded in death by her parents and a brother and is survived by two sisters, Nancy Jarvis and Sally Rossi, both of University Place, and two brothers, Stuart Haywood of Gig Harbor and Steve Haywood of Twisp.  Walter was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by a sister, Pat Coy of Concord, California and his stepmother Betty McCullough of Tacoma.
