Bruce Jarrett, age 71, left this life February 22, 2001 at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, Washington. Lettie Jarrett, age 68, his wife of 48 years, preceded him on May 22, 2000, also at Harrison Hospital. Bruce was born in an outstation near Dumas, Texas on August 27, 1929 and grew up in Fort Davis, Texas. Lettie was born in Hackberry, Texas on September 27, 1931. She began her schooling in Cherokee, Texas and her family eventually moved to Fort Davis where they met and graduated from High School in 1946 and 1949 respectively.Bruce attended college at Texas A&M and Sul Ross State College before joining the U.S. Navy in 1948. He and Lettie were married on April 5, 1952 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They traveled to various duty stations until he retired in 1970 in Port Orchard, where they had maintained a residence since 1963. They both attended Olympic college in Bremerton and graduated together in 1972. He continued his eduction at the University of Washington until he left to pursue his longtime interest in boating. He built a live-aboard sailboat that they launched in 1979. Meanwhile, Lettie had returned to Olympic College where she graduated from the Nursing Program in 1981. They spent their summers fishing in Alaska from 1979 to 1990, while Lettie worked as an R.N. during the off-season and full-time from 1990 to 1997.They were committed Christians who took seriously their charge to ''Go to the World and Teach'', and this was the motivation for their community, civic, and church involvement. They were active with and much loved by their families. They were charter members of Burley-Glenwood Baptist Church in Port Orchard. They were active members of the Port Orchard Yacht Club, American Red Cross, Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce, and the American Cancer Society. Their spirit continues in the hearts of family and friends as they continue to live in God's presence.They leave her mother Fannie B. (Perry) Colwell and sister Glenda Ragland, both of San Saba, Texas; her brothers John Colwell and Billy Colwell, both of Artesia, New Mexico; his sister Audine Culpepper of Plainview, Texas; and brother Paul Jarrett of San Diego, California. He was preceded in death by a brother Lewis Jarrett in 1952. Their children (and grandchildren) are: Ed and Sue Jarrett of Bremerton, Washington (grandchildren - Mike and Rachael); Steve and Carol Jarrett of Port Orchard, Washington (grandchildren-Amanda, Nathan, Hannah, and Naaman); and Audrey Jarrett of Port Orchard, Washington (grandchildren-Emily and Sarah).A Memorial Service will be held March 3, 2001 at 4:00pm at First Baptist Church of Port Orchard, 2308 Sidney, Port Orchard.
