Carlos (Carl) Dean Guseman

August 1, 1936 — May 5, 2021

Carlos D. Guseman, 84, passed away May 5, 2021, in Port Orchard, Wa.

Carl was born in The Plains, Ohio, Aug. 1, 1936. He served in the Navy immediately following high school, and served as an electricians mate aboard the USS Coral Sea and USS Midway. He met his wife Dolora while stationed in Bremerton, and made Port Orchard his home. Dolora preceded him in death in 1990.

He completed an apprenticeship through the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which he later taught for several years. He was a key figure in the local IBEW and fought for many of the benefits future generations now take for granted.

In 1994, he married his present wife Doris. She and Dolora and Carl had been friends since 1956, and shared many happy memories. Doris and Carl retired together and traveled for many years as “Snowbirds” between Washington and Arizona, and visited much of the country together. Besides their travel, they enjoyed dancing, golfing, theater, and spending time with family and friends.

Carl is survived by his wife Doris and his brother Jim of New Jersey (the last of eight siblings); his daughter and son-in-law Paul and Debbie Lyons; his step-son and daughter-in-law David and Terilee Germain; his son and daughter-in-law Joe and Corry Guseman, his daughter Jody Friez e; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

For Carl, love was not an emotion, it was action. He made a home for his wife and children, always had time for them, taught them to build things, cooked for them, helped them with homework, took them to their activities and events, listened to them, encouraged them, sacrificed for them, and respected them. He had a strong work ethic and modeled values that carried his children and grandchildren into successful adulthood. He was an exceptional man.
