Carol F Hart

November 11, 1929 — May 4, 2013

Carol F. Hart passed away peacefully on May 4, 2013 after a courageous battle against cancer. A devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, she touched the lives of all who knew her with her giving spirit, passion for learning, and endless energy.
Carol was born on November 11, 1929 to parents Frances E. Bailey and Arthur Henry Bohard in Harper County, Oklahoma. She attended Tangier School where she played on the girls basketball team and graduated from Woodward High School. Carol married in 1947 and moved with her young family to Bremerton, Washington in 1953. She was a homemaker and mother and began working for Montgomery Ward in 1966. She later joined the civil service and worked for Bangor Naval Submarine Base, Keyport Naval Torpedo Station, and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard where she met her husband Jerry Leon Hart. The couple married in 1976 in Port Orchard and moved to Grapeview in 1978 where together they fulfilled Carol's teenage dream of learning to fly. She received her license in 1980 and became involved with The Ninety-Nines, Inc., International Organization of Women Pilots.
Carol retired from civil service in 1990 and worked for the Washington State Department of Licensing and Mason County Probation Services. Appointed by the Governor, she served on the Washington State Board of Nursing Home Administrators from 2004 to 2009 and volunteered as a reading tutor for the North Mason School District. Carol was also involved in numerous church and community service activities to help those in need.
In her 36 years with Leon, Carol enjoyed flying, traveling, motor cycle camping, and family. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, knitting, making porcelain dolls, and all forms of arts and crafts which she loved to share with children. Her love of music inspired her to learn to play the piano and harp during her retirement years.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Artie Max Bohard, sisters Iola Bentch, Faye Coombs, and Flo Dennis, stepdaughter Carol Ann Alexander, and two grandsons. She is survived by her husband Leon; brother Bill Bohard; son Roy Claxton Jr. (Cathy); daughters Tarzana Santangelo, Stella Russell, and Dana Claxton; stepsons Jerry Hart (Debra) and Richard Hart (Dixie); 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, countless nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends, and her beloved dog Lulu.
Services and burial for Carol will be held at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard. A Memorial honoring her life will be held at North Mason United Methodist Church, 25140 NE State Route 3, Belfair, on Saturday, May 11th, at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the Susan G.
