Carolyn "Carol" Joyce Bowman

December 24, 1949 — May 26, 2024

Carol J Bowman, 74, a longtime Kitsap County resident died peacefully at St. Michael medical Center on Sunday, May 26 in Silverdale, WA. She was the first born to Vernon R. and Johnny I. (Nee’ Garrison) Montoure on December 24, 1949, in Hoquiam, WA. Mom's siblings: Ronald, Gregory, Jody, Joni and their spouses.

Our mom attended Grays Harbor schools, graduating from Hoquiam High School. After discovering a love for children and brief nanny experience, she devoted most of her time to a home daycare setting for many friends and neighbors. This was truly a joy in her life… she told stories about all the kids she cared for nearly up until her passing.

In July 1972, she married John D. Bowman Sr. Together they raised four children to adulthood and remained caring partners throughout the various phases of life, health challenges and decision making.

Mom enjoyed visiting with friends, attending church and various activities, going on car rides and eating Chinese food. She loved music, especially 60’s and 70’s … always fun to hear her sing to her favorite tunes. She had a way of making others laugh too… a talent of doing the Woody Woodpecker and various cartoon favorite laughs & sounds. She was something else. We will miss her authentic self.

Carol is survived by her husband John of 52 years, adult children; Tonya M. Bell, Jolene L. Bowman, John D. Bowman, Jr., Christopher J. Bowman, Aunt JoAnn Carpenter (Nee’ Garrison), cousins Tracy, Paul and Denise, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Many of our immediate and extended family remain in Grays Harbor; many nieces, nephews, cousins and additional family members. A longtime friend, Jana Parker, spent time playing table games, going shopping and laughing together. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johns’ parents, a stillbirth baby girl, Madam meow (long lived cat) and close relatives. We are hopeful that she has been reunited with all her loved ones, as she wished.

No visitation or formal funeral services will take place. A celebration of life and reception at First Apostolic Lighthouse, 4960 COUNTRY CLUB WAY SE, PORT ORCHARD, WA 98366 on 6/27/2024 @ 11:00. For those who would like to attend the burial, we will depart and travel to Elma, WA.

Mom will be laid to rest at our Montoure Family Plots at Odd Fellow Cemetery (AKA 100F Cemetery) in Elma, WA. Elma was home to her grandparents and father, where it all began. We feel honored to keep family together.

We want to send loving thoughts and gratefulness to our extended family at First Apostolic Lighthouse, especially Pastor Raney and wife, bestie Cindy and all the friends she cherished and interacted with for many years. Thank you for being a special part of our moms’ “Sister Carol” life.
