Catherine “Cathy” June Espy, 59, passed away peacefully at home on 3/15/2016, after a long and valiant struggle with COPD. She was attended by loving family and close friends.
Cathy was born in Martinez, California, to Joy Anna Griffin and Carl Greshiam. She grew up in the Port Orchard area, attended SK schools and graduated in 1975 from South Kitsap High School. She was the mother of two daughters, and married Aaron Espy, a local firefighter, in 1981. They divorced in 1987.
Cathy is survived by two brothers, Steve Jackson of Pt. Orchard and Bruce Wylie of Bremerton. A sister, Chris Kurle of Pt. Orchard; Daughters Nicole Moore of Finley, WA, and Amanda Espy of Pt. Orchard, WA. She had numerous nieces and nephews. Cathy especially enjoyed spending time with her three granddaughters, Cierra, 19, Trinitee, 13, and Savanna, 2.
Cathy served briefly as a volunteer with Kitsap County Fire District #7, as a reserve deputy with KCSO, an as a deputy coroner with the KC coroner’s office.
More than anything, she treasured spending time with her grandchildren, but also enjoyed social media, gardening, crocheting and beadwork.
It was Cathy’s request to not have a funeral or memorial service, but rather a barbeque celebration of her life. Contact her daughter, Amanda, for further details.
It was originally Cathy’s wish to donate her body to the University of Washington, however technical complications have preempted this plan. Consequently, there was no plan in place to fund burial/cremation expenses. To assist the family with cremation expenses, donations can be made to her GoFundMe account:
