Cecil Walter

June 29, 1945 — July 31, 2011

Cecil “Cy” Hampton Walter, III, 66, died peacefully at his home in Port Orchard on July 31, 2011.  He was born June 29, 1945 in Syracuse, New York to Cecil Hampton & Julie E.  (Hopkins) Walter, Jr.  He graduated from Fayetteville Manlius HS in NY and University of Hawaii with an associate degree.  He married Katherine A. Sydnor December 8, 1990 on Bainbridge Island, WA. Cecil worked for more than 32 years as a civil servant.  His career began as a Painter at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.  In 1979, he transferred to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and retired in 2000 as a Zone Manager.  After retirement, he worked for General Dynamics/Electric Boat as a Senior Ship Superintendent during the submarine conversion projects.  He served in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War as a Sergeant earning the National Defense Service Medal and Rifle Sharp Shooter Badge. Cecil enjoyed golf, playing pool, driving fast cars, and time with family & friends.  He also liked growing roses and fuchsias.  He was active in the Catholic Church and served as an altar boy at Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville NY.  He was an Eagle Scout, camp counselor and part of the Ski Patrol. Surviving are wife Katherine; son Cecil H.  Walter IV “CW” of Port Orchard; daughters Cecily Kim (Mark) Romo of Port Orchard and Cory Anne (Nate) Phillips of Louisville, KY; sister Julia E. Walter of Fayetteville NY; uncle J. Clancy “Bud” Hopkins, Jr.; grandchildren Courtney Perez, Kelcey & Antonio Romo, Tristan & Laken Phillips.  He also left behind his beloved demon kitty “Chevy”. Rosary 7:00 pm on August 4th at Rill’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.  Funeral Mass at 11:00 am on Friday, August 5, 2011 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, also in Port Orchard.  Online memorial at www.rill.com
