Charlene Rae Santos

June 28, 1950 — November 30, 2020

Charlene Rae Santos passed away on November 30, 2020. Charlene was born in Bremerton, WA on June 28th 1950. She grew up in Port Orchard, raised by Bob and Bea Johnson. She went to Pleasant Valley Elementary in Gorst, Orchard Heights School, Marcus Whitman Junior High and South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard.

She later met her husband John Santos in Evergreen Park in Bremerton in 1968. They married and moved to a homestead in Colville where her son Matthew was born and eventually settled and built a home in Grapeview. While her and John eventually divorced, they maintained a friendship that lasted through the years. Here she raised her two sons Matt and Micah and two daughters Alysha and Nicole.
She worked at the Grapeview Country Store for several years. You can find her name etched in the concrete in between the gas pumps today.

She then joined Washington State Department of Transportation where she worked through the ranks up to supply manager where she managed construction contracts, supplies and ordering for the western region of Washington state. She worked there for many years until she retired on June 25th 2015. There was standing room only at the retirement party, the whiteboard read “WE WILL MISS YOU CHAR, WE LOVE YOU.”

Charlene loved to cook, bake, and share her food with everyone she loved. She was well known for her green thumb and had an encyclopedic knowledge of plants. She had a love of reading and instilled that on her children. She had a famous recipe for spaghetti sauce and was known for many other recipes. She once sold cinnamon rolls for $600 at an auction. She loved chocolate. She cared deeply for animals and they worshipped her in return. She enjoyed spending time with her family for any occasion, watching her grandchildren, and spending time with her mom.

Charlene is survived by her mother Bea Johnson, her brother Ron Johnson, his wife Candace, sister Becky Hawkins her husband Jim, sister Rhonda Lieseke and husband Wayne Jordheim; her son Matt Santos and his wife Jody, her son Micah Santos, her daughter Alysha Rodiguez and her husband Paul, her daughter Nicole Blanford and her husband Greg, grandsons Anthony, Presley, Chris, Diesel, Gage, Isaiah, and Ronan. She was preceded in death by nephew Russell, and her dad Robert Johnson.
