Charles Marchell,

June 2, 1931 — February 19, 2010

Charles Joseph Marchell, Jr.  was born on June 2, 1931 to Charles and Josephine (Yurgalewicz) in Torrington, Connecticut where he was raised with a younger brother, Robert and many cousins.  He was in the Navy from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War and was stationed on the USS Carrier Palau. He was very patriotic and continued to be a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. He married Joan Lovallo and moved to Washington in the 1950’s after the war, where they had 2 sons, Theodore in 1959 and Jeffrey in 1963. He worked for Boeing for 36 ½ years and retired in 1992.  He spent 30 of those years as an industrial engineer and supervisor in the commercial airplane division.  He was a licensed private pilot and had owned and operated a number of private aircraft.  Charlie bought property in North Mason County 1989 and proceeded to design and build a house, which he moved into in 1994.  Then in 2005 he designed a second house for this same property, divided the property in half and sold his 1st house and moved into the second.    Charlie is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey and Theodore Marchell.  He is also survived by his grandson, Jeffrey Charles Marchell and a brother, Robert Henry Marchell of Texas .  He was a very creative and industrious man, as his aunt Minnie stated “Always up to something.” In 1991 he put out a patent process trying to get a windshield wiper blade connected to the light system of a car.  He was also an avid cartoonist and great story teller. His last formal effort went into copywriting a program for the government to help figure out how to get our votes to count at the ballot box.  He was a character and will be missed by many. Memorial service for Charlie will be Sunday, March 7, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Christ Lutheran Church in Belfair.
