A beloved grandmother, mother, wife, sister and friend, Che Che passed too soon, leaving her husband of 50 years, Dennis Murphy, four children, eight grandchildren and one great grand, Elfay Colleen Murphy. Her children are Michael (Carey) Murphy, Todd McGee, Jennifer (Jason) Hubbell, and Matt (Linda) Murphy. She is also survived by her older brothers, Charlie (Susan) Brown and Eddie (Joyce). Che Che was born in Bremerton shortly after her parents (Archie and Helen Brown) and her brothers arrived from a long drive from Oklahoma.
Chequita had a successful professional career at Keyport Torpedo Station, Scott Wetzel Services (20 years) and Kitsap County (15 years), retiring in 2016. She and Denny also spent five years working in Tampa, FL, enjoying the adventures of traveling the South.
They were known for their hospitality, always welcoming their children’s friends to their warm home, and supporting and encouraging them. They are also known for attending every sports event, including the local grandkids. They traveled across the nation visiting family and friends throughout the years.
Chequita will always be remembered for her generosity in more ways than one. She was passionate about Christmas, beautifully decorated her house, and generously gifted her children and grandchildren every year. She loved the many camping trips she and Denny took in their trailer, late night classic movies, and her daily coffee from Starbuck’s. Her favorite holiday movie was “It’s a Wonderful Life” and she made everyone’s life around her, wonderful.
A graveside service will be held Friday, May 31st at noon at Sunset Lane in Port Orchard.
