Christine Carey went to be with the Lord on February 8, 2024. Born June 10, 1947 in Alameda, California, she was raised in San Lorenzo, California. She graduated from Arroyo High School in 1965. She graduated from Chabot Junior College with a degree in Business. She was involved in drama, participating in a number of plays.
She went to work in San Francisco as a broker for Shuman Agnew and Sutro for 10 years.
She came to Washington in December 1976, taking a leave of absence from her job. After being laid off in 1977, she volunteered at Holly Ridge Center, a place for developmentally disabled children, where she met Vicki Little, one of the teachers who became a lifelong friend- adopted sister.
In May of that year, Christine met the person she would spend the rest of her life with, Patrick Carey at a birthday party for 4. They were married on April 28, 1978, spending their honeymoon in Disneyland and traveling back up the coast to her parents’ home, before traveling home to Washington.
Christine loved having kids around. After being laid off from her job at Kitsap County, foster care became her next adventure. Doing this for 10 years, we had 31 children pass through our home. The last one being our daughter Polli.
We had many fun memories together, camping in Canada and Washington. She loved shopping on Mondays at Goodwill, St Vincent’s and Value Village. She loved crossword puzzles word searches and reading the Bible. Her faith was very important to her. She volunteered at Christ the Rock and did some Bible Studies there.
She is survived by her husband Pat, daughter Polli, foster daughter Shardon, 2 grandchildren Nikolas and Hudson, her sister Carrie Falter of Tucson, AZ, her brother Tom Brown of Senora, CA; Steve Voorheis of Pleasant Hill, CA; nephews Eric and Scott Hildebrand. She also had several bonus nieces and nephews.
The Celebration of Life will be at Christ the Rock on March 16, at 1pm.
