Clarence William Hovde, born March 8, 1930 in Port Orchard to Alvin and Helen Hovde, died July 21, 2014 in Port Orchard. Clarence graduated from South Kitsap HS in 1948. Clarence worked for the Kitsap County Road Department for 30 years before retiring in 1982. In the early years he drove heavy machinery such as front-end loaders and CAT bulldozers. He later became a foreman and supervisor for the south end of the county and eventually the Superintendent of Roads for all of Kitsap County. Prior to his working career he served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. Clarence volunteered thousands of hours to Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball as both a General Manager and Coach. One of the Regional SK Parks baseball diamonds is named Clarence Hovde Field for his commitment to Youth Baseball. He also served on various school and parks committees throughout the years. After retiring Clarence enjoyed golfing at Village Greens (he lost count, but at some point had more than a dozen hole-in-ones to his credit) and trips to the Oregon Coast with his family. Clarence is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia; sister Thelma; children Dan (Karol), Doug (Kristi) and Sandy (Dan); and grandchildren Ashley, Zach, Ellen, Drew, Josh and Kacy. Clarence will be buried at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard. Online memorial at
