Clinton Arthur Hamrick passed away at his home in Allyn on April 1st 2014 at the young age of 76. Clint was born December 9th 1937 in St. Louis Missouri to Clinton Howard and Ruby (Craddock) Hamrick.
Clint enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1954 and retired as a Chief Petty Officer with an Honorable Discharge after 20 years of service in 1974. A few of the places he served while in the U.S. Navy were Vietnam, Hawaii, Adak Alaska, Japan, San Diego and the Philippines. He also served aboard the USS Markab, USS Finch, USS Caliente, USS Princeton and USS Camden AOE-2. He was on the baseball team for the USS Markab and USS Finch and his baseball uniforms were later donated to the Naval Museum in Bremerton, Washington.
After retiring from the U.S. Navy he worked at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a Rigger, the Bangor Naval Station as a Security Guard, attended Olympic College in Bremerton where he obtained his Associates Degree, he also obtained a Realtors License and worked as a Real Estate Agent for By The Bay Realty in Port Orchard Washington and last but not least he worked Parking Enforcement (Meter Maid) for the city of Port Orchard.
He married the former Beverly Jean Phillips in 1959. They had four children, Tuesdee, Mondee, Sundee and Clinton Blade. Beverly was Clint’s major caregiver during his final months and lived at the Allyn home during the week. Without her unselfish support and giving of her time we would not have been able to grant his wish of dying at home.
He married the former Shirley Louise Greateroux in 1974 and raised Kathleen (Kathi) Dorow as his own and was step-father to Linda Hunter and Billy Everest.
He enjoyed golfing; playing horseshoes; watching, playing and coaching baseball; reading, especially Louis L’Amour Westerns; rooting for the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Mariners and the Seattle Seahawks; winning and losing at the Casino’s and playing cards in the Card Room at the Hi-Joy Bowling Alley. A few of his favorite dishes were Smoked Ham Hocks & Beans, Tator Tot Casserole, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Peanut Butter Cookies. He loved listening to Frankie Laine Western Ballads on his old turntable.
Clint and Shirley had a wonderful home and acreage that was always full of love, family and friends. They loved spending time at the ocean, traveling with family and camping at their lake property until her passing in 2002. Clint and his sister Betty moved into the Holly Terrace Apartments in Port Orchard where they lived together until 2011 when she moved to stay with her daughter Tina in Las Vegas and Clint moved in with his daughter Tuesdee and her husband in Allyn.
Clint was an active member of the First Christian Church of Port Orchard and faithfully attended while his wife Shirley was alive. He was also a member of the Village Greens Golf Course Men’s Club, Bremerton Elks #1181 and the Port Orchard Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Clint always referred to his kids as “son” or “daughter”, his spouse as “wife” and his sisters as “sis” instead of using their given names. This always caused some confusion when there was more than one daughter in the room at the same time.
Clint was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shirley; Mother and Father; Stepfather Richard Graves; sisters Pat Haley (Vern), Betty Casna; brothers Kirby Hamrick and stepson Billy Everest. He is survived by his brothers Robert Hamrick (Roni), Richard Graves Sr. (Catholeen); sister Shirley Peterson (Ron); daughters Tuesdee Rehard (Steven), Mondee Norton (Tim), Sundee Hamrick, Kathi Dorow (Alan) and Linda Hunter (Brian); son Clinton Blade Hamrick (Jenny), numerous nieces, nephews, 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Olympia’s Providence SoundHomeCare and Hospice for their support and care in his final months and days. We especially would like to thank Nurse Donna, Nurse Audrey and aide Melissa for their never ending care and attention to all of dad’s needs and wishes. Memorial donations may be made in his name to Providence SoundHomeCare & Hospice, Hospice Fund, 3432 South Bay Road N.E., Olympia, WA 98506.
