Cornell M. Janes LCDR, USN, Ret. October 6 1930 --- March 17, 2005 Cornell M. Janes, of Port Orchard, died on March 17, 2005 at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton of complications following a prolonged illness. He was 74. He was born in Pomona, California on October 6, 1930 to Milton Cornell and Mattie E.(Genung) Janes. He attended Monrovia Arcadia Duarte High School before entering into the U.S. Navy in 1947. He retired 23 years later in 1970 as a Lieutenant Commander having served in Korea, Vietnam and Cuba among other stations. He later attended and went on to teach at Blue Mountain College for 10 years in Pendleton, Oregon. He enjoyed rebuilding street rods, woodworking, machine metal work and traveling. He loved to work and his greatest pleasure was helping others. He is survived by his wife Susan (Zehnder) Janes, his daughter Peggy Janes-Dean, his brother Norm Janes and his wife Pat, his nephews Jeff and Greg Janes and their wives and families. He is also survived by his cousin Bill Genung and his wife Judy and their family of Hudson, Ohio and the family of cousin Bud Reigert and his wife Rita of Madison, Ohio. Burial with full military honors will be on March 25 at Tahoma National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. A memorial celebration of his life will be held at the home of Pat and Cheryl Lockhart following the service.
