Crystal Jeanne Barnum

Crystal Jeanne Barnum, 45, of Port Orchard passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015.
Crystal was born in San Diego, CA, July 10, 1970, to Filberto and Jann (Tuohy) Clarke. The family lived in numerous places throughout her childhood, including Germany. When Crystal was in Jr. High, they settled in Tacoma where she attended Stadium High School for a short time before graduating from Peninsula High School in 1988. It was at this point that she joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Shortly after, Crystal enlisted in the Navy and served for 2 years as a Corpsman, assigned to the Lemoore Naval Air Station in California. Acting on a desire to serve the Lord and teach others about the gospel of Jesus Christ, Crystal left on an 18-month mission for the LDS church. She began serving in Costa Rica and due to a broken ankle, completed her mission in Chicago, IL.
On June 22, 1996, Crystal married the love of her life, Wilford (Bill) Barnum, in the Seattle Temple. They lived in Tacoma for a short time before deciding to make Port Orchard their home in 1998. With Bill’s encouragement, she completed her associates degree in 1997. She was committed to raising their two children and could not have been more proud of them! Crystal will always be remembered as a dedicated mother, supportive and loving wife, and loyal friend.
In 2003 Crystal was diagnosed with Medulary Thyroid cancer. She patiently endured all the tests and intensive treatments. She was a warrior in her fight for life and continued with faith, prayer and a positive attitude. Her long, courageous battle ended Saturday afternoon at her home in Port Orchard, surrounded by loved ones.
Crystal loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ, serving her family, and fellow man. She served in various capacities in her church and loved those whom she served from the children in the nursery to the young women.
Crystal is survived by her devoted husband Bill, son, Robert, daughter, Natalya, of Port Orchard, WA, sister, Becky (Brad) Lee of Tacoma, WA, aunt Erin Jeanne (Wes) Western of San Diego, uncle, Timothy Tuohy of Oceanside, CA, and numerous loving friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jann Tuohy.
Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Monday November 30, 2015 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1550 Hoover Ave SE in Port Orchard, WA.
Crystal greatly appreciated all those who encouraged, supported and served her and her family throughout this long battle.
