Curtis Dale Franklin

October 8, 1964 — February 10, 2024

His drive to perfect sculptures brought us to a chance meeting and another occurred on locker row: one above and one below. He was my best friend and love. And as his world, his one person, it’s beyond measure hard to say farewell for now.

Summing up who he was, his likes, dislikes, and family connections is hard because threads of memories from forty-five years together keep popping loose, saying “don’t forget…”. From remembered and shared stories, I hear fiercely loyal, courteous, funny, kind, sarcastic, tender, thoughtful, merry and sad, patient and impatient, and an artisan. His friends and family I’m sure can add more.

Born in Texas at Sheppard AFB, October 8, 1964, Curtis was a proud Air Force kid, spending time with his grandparents in Asheville, NC, then on to Warner Robins, GA, Howard AFB, Panama, Pease AFB, NH, and a return to Warner Robins. Here he met Susan, his wife, and delved into passions for cars, guitars, and fishing. He was a graduate of Northside High School, Warner Robins, GA in 1983.

He graduated from Auburn University, Auburn, AL in 1991 with a BS degree in Fisheries Management. He and Susan married in 1994 and later moved to Nampa, ID. Here he enjoyed photography, birding, and fishing and grew his Luthier skills building and repairing guitars. As he unabashedly said, “I’m really good at fishing and repairing and building guitars.” Agreed.

Curtis passed away February 10, 2024. He is survived by his wife Susan Burdeshaw Franklin, parents Wendell and Lana Franklin, brothers Kenneth (Heather) Franklin, and Troy (Carrie) Franklin, and numerous nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Goldia and Grover Franklin as well as Joe and Hazel Gentry.

His internment date at Kholerlawn in Nampa, Idaho will be announced in the future on this memorial page. In lieu of flowers, please consider signing up for organ donation as one of his last gifts was the donation of his corneas. Other support passions were public television, women and children shelters and humane societies.
