Daniel Durham

November 25, 1927 — February 21, 2004

Daniel W. Durham of Olalla, Washington died February 21, 2004 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. He was 76. He was born November 25, 1927 in Bollinger Co., Missouri to Sidney and Sarah (Fronabarger) Durham. Daniel married Betty (Johnson) Durham February 5, 1951 in Tacoma, Washington. He attended school in St. Louis, Missouri; and, graduated from Tacoma Vocational Institute in Tacoma, Washington in 1954. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, and U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He achieved rank of Sergeant in the Army. He received recognition of outstanding service for above and beyond the call of duty from the U.S. Army at Ft. Lewis. Daniel worked as a Heavy Duty Diesel Master Mechanic for Woodworth Construction Company in Tacoma, Washington for 27 years. He retired in 1987. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, carpentry; and, was a member of B.P.O.E. #174 of Tacoma, Washington. Daniel attended King of Glory Lutheran Church in Gig Harbor, Washington. He is survived by his wife - Betty (Johnson) Durham of the family home in Olalla, Washington; son - David Beech (& wife, Ginny) of Tacoma, Washington; daughter - Cherie Swagel (& husband, Russell) of Olalla, Washington, Lynda Walters of Olalla, Washington; brother - Edward Durham of Troy Missouri; sisters - Ethel Bell of St. Louis, Missouri, Jean James of Seneca, Missouri, Lydia Withers of Florissant, Missouri; 4 grandchildren (Dave Beech, Tara Waits, Daniel Darr, Judith Walters); 7 great-grandchildre. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 27, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 6411 - 154th Street N.W., Gig Harbor, Washington.
