Darrell Wayne Stead

Darrell Wayne Stead passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the age of 99. He was born on December 1, 1924, to James Edward Stead and Ada Fern Stead. Darrell had no siblings and was born and grew up in Westhope, North Dakota. Darrell graduated from Maxbass High School in 1943 where his interest in sports flourished and continued throughout his life. He enjoyed spending his free time, coaching his sons in Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams, along with playing golf and bowling. His working career was centered in Bremerton, Washington at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in the Sheetmetal and Program Plannerman Departments, retiring at the age of 56.
Darrell is survived by his wife Grace Evelyn Stead (99) and sons Laurie, Craig, Ron, and Darwin; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. His youngest son Kevin, passed away in March of 2022 and grandson Brian passed away in 1988. Darrell and Grace were married for a wonderful 79 years. He raised his family in Port Orchard, WA then moved to Olympia, WA in August, 2012 to be closer to family.
Darrell and his wife Grace, along with Kevin, have chosen to have their funeral services held together after all three have passed to honor their devotion to each other. A graveside service at Sunset Lane Memorial Park and Cemetery along with details to be provided at the appropriate time.
