David A. Bejar

March 3, 1934 — January 14, 2016

David went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 14, 2016 surrounded by his entire family. David was born in Miami, AZ on March 3, 1934 to Mariano and Nellie Lopez Bejar. He spent his youth and high school years in Gilroy, CA where he also met the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Mary Lou Martinez. They married after high school graduation on July 13, 1954 and were married for 61 years. While living in Gilroy David and Mary Lou had three children. David also worked in the automotive industry and served in the Army National Guard. In 1958 the family of five moved to El Cajon, CA where they purchased the home they lived in for over 30 years. David and Mary Lou added five more children to their family between 1959 and 1971. David worked in the construction/concrete industry (Carlsen & Harold and Diaz Construction) in San Diego California for over 30 years. The most important thing in David’s life was his wife and family and the Lord blessed him with eight children, 4 boys and 4 girls. He was also blessed with 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and loving son’s and daughter’s-in-law. He was his happiest spending time with all of them. David and Mary Lou enjoyed life and lived it to the full with BBQ’s, dancing, family camping at Woodchuck and the desert, treasure hunting at Goodwill and St. Vincents. They also opened their home to all who wanted a great meal and friendly fellowship. They retired in 1992 and moved to Port Orchard, WA and continued the life-long tradition of opening their home to all. You never felt like a stranger in the Bejar home because everyone was welcomed like family. David was a jack of all trades and even in retirement he kept working for over 15 years as a handyman for KWMHP. David was very and proud of his four grandsons for serving their country, as he did, in the Army, Marines and Air Force. David and Mary Lou enjoyed their retirement these past 25 years with family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and sisters and his infant daughter, Jill Ann Bejar.
David is survived by his wife of 61 years Mary Lou, sons, David (Donna) of El Cajon, CA, Donald of Port Orchard, WA, Daniel of Lakeside, CA, Dennis (Debbie) of El Cajon, CA and daughters, Jacki(David) Baker, JoAnn (Brian) Martin, and Janine (John) Barsanti of Port Orchard, WA, grandchildren, Jason, Corey, Tyler, John, and Jaxon of Port Orchard, WA, Jessica(Joe) of Tampa, FL, Jacob of Lakeside, CA, Jill (Mitchell) of Fallbrook, CA, Karli of Texas, Teeah of Missouri, Jorden of El Cajon, CA, great-grandchildren, Kailee of Indianapolis, Selena and Aaden of Port Orchard, WA and Harper of Fallbrook, CA and sister Esther Bejar of Gilroy, CA and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
