It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Master Chief David Cantrell, who departed this life in the morning hours of June 11, 2024, at the age of 73. A devoted patriot, loving family man, and cherished community member, David's legacy is marked by unwavering dedication and service.
Born on March 22, 1951 in California - David Cantrell grew up with a deep-seated sense of duty and honor, which guided his steps into a distinguished military career. Joining the United States Navy, David quickly demonstrated exceptional skill and leadership, rising through the ranks to become Command Master Chief Petty Officer. His 31-year tenure in the Navy was characterized by steadfast commitment, bravery, and a tireless work ethic, earning him numerous accolades and the respect of his peers. At duty stations in the USA and UK - serving with unique distinction in the fleet of Submarines, Surface ships and an Airwing.
Beyond his military accomplishments, David was a beacon of love and support for his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Darleada (Dolly) Cantrell; his 5 Children, 15 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild on the way as well as 2 sisters and 2 brothers, all who brought immense joy to his life. David's role as a father and grandfather was marked by endless encouragement, wisdom, and unwavering support, instilling in his children and grandchildren the values of integrity and resilience. Those in his presence, know all to well - his cheeky whit and quick quips of riddles and jokes, shared during get togethers.
David Cantrell's life was a testament to the virtues of duty, honor, and love. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him. A memorial and burial service with full military honors at the Tahoma National Cemetery will be held the 16th of September, 2024 at 1130.
