Mr. David S. Collins, Age: 55, resident of Port Orchard, died on November 5, 2001 at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton, due to Acute Pulmonary Disease.David had been born on February 1, 1946, in Bremerton, Washington to Paul H. and Mary (Belander) Collins. He attended East Bremerton High School, graduating in 1965. He also attended Olympic College in Bremerton. David joined the United States Army on October 16, 1964. He served with the Infantry Division, Fort Lewis's Sixth Army, receiving an Honorable Discharge on October 15, 1968. He attained the rank of E-5, Sergeant.David chose a career in law enforcement, and retired in 1995 after twenty plus years as a Corrections Officer.He was a life member of American Vets Post #1, in Tacoma. He loved cooking, and was a member of the Catholic faith.David is survived by his parents, Frank and Mary Jennings of Tacoma, Washington; sons, David Collins of Port Orchard, Richard Collins of Hucachuca, Arizona, Michael Collins of Bremerton, and Paul Collins of Gorst,Washington; daughters, Kimberly DeLapp and Kathrena Newman of Bremerton; brothers, Donald Collins of Tacoma, and James Collins of Shelton, Washington; sister, Mary Carlson of Tacoma; and thirteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Collins.A commital service will be held in Mr. Collins honor at Tahoma National Cemetery, at 3:00 p.m., Friday, November 23, 2001.Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Washington, 2625 3rd Ave., Seattle, Washington 98121.Arrangements are under direction of Rill Chapel, Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home and Crematory.
