David was born on May 5, 1963 in Beech Grove, Indiana to Daniel Louis and Patricia Anne (Belton) Fox. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, graduating Cum Laude from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, also a degree of Naval Engineer from MIT and a Master of Science in Polymers from MIT. David was an Engineer with the U.S. Navy achieving the rank of Commander and many medals, awards and commendations. He served for 26 years.
In 1986, he met his future wife, Sally (Fossum): “I was at Stuart Anderson’s in Bremerton with two girlfriends. We were upstairs looking down on the lower floor. As the band started playing, we saw this guy looking around. He looked up and saw us, my friends teased me,” He’s going to ask you to dance.” And he did! We only danced to that one song; he walked me back to my table and thanked me. Then he sent drinks to the table. As we were leaving, David came up to me and asked me to a Mariner’s game – I accepted – and that is how David and I met and the very beginning of our love story.”
David’s non-military life revolved around music, music and more music. He was part of many groups and enjoyed playing jazz and listening to Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan and Bob Seger among others. Other hobbies included golf, astronomy, bowling, gardening, camping and traveling with his wife - one of their favorite places was Volcano National Park in Hawaii - and their cats Sammy, Rainy and Poppy.
As David would say “Life is Good”.
