Dean Smith

Dean LeRoy Smith 72, of Port Orchard, Washington passed away on July 19, 2001 from a stroke. Dean was born to Walter and Kathryn (Richard)Smith in Chehalis, Washington on February 11, 1929. Dean went to Highline High School, Seattle, Washington, graduating in 1947. He joined the Marine Corps upon graduating from high school. He met and married Elsa (Huffman)Smith on May 14, 1947 in Long Beach, California. He remained in the Marine Corps until 1949. After getting out of the Marine Corps he began his own business in the Marine Canvas industry. He retired after 45 years in this industry in 1994. Dean loved to golf and fly his airplane.He is survived by his wife of 54 years, two sons; Tim Smith of El Toro, California, Steven Smith of Huntington Beach,California; two daughters; Susan Rodriguez of Garden Grove, California, and Karen Fisher of Olalla, Washington; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by a sister, Diane Voorhes. Graveside committal services will be with full military honors at Tahoma National Cemetery on Thursday July 26, 2001. Arrangements are under direction of Rill Funeral Chapel in Port Orchard.
