Delmar Fields

Delmar Verne Fields, 72, of Bremerton, Washington, died February 14, 2002, at his home. He was born September 20, 1929 in Yakima to Elmer and Edith(Anderson)Fields of Selah, Washington. Mr.Fields graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1946. He was a gradute of Olympic College and also attended Western Washington University. He completed an Automotive Machinist Apprenticeship Program before he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Mary L. Mason of Bremerton, November 24, 1951 in Girard, Kansas while they were both members of the military. Mr. Fields was employed in automotive parts sales and as an automotive machinist in the local area from 1946 to 1969. He was an Automotive Vocational Instructor for twenty seven years, emlployed by the Bremerton School District and Olympic College. Mr. Fields was instrumental in the early development of the automotive educational programs of the Bremerton area. He was owner-manager of Bremerton Auto Parts and Machine Shop at 11th and Callow, which he, and his wife, Mary, established in 1969 and jointly operated until 1994.Mr. Fields was a member of the Bremerton Central Lions Club and he served as King Lion from 1984-1985. He was a member of the Bremerton Yacht Club, the American Legion Post 62 and Bremerton Elks Lodge 1181.Mr. Fields enjoyed the great outdoors, camping, hiking, traveling the back roads to out of the way places. He enjoyed sharing this love with his grandchildren. He was a camera enthusiast, capturing the rugged beauty of the mountains and the sea. He had a refreshing curiosity of everything and was always willing to listen and share his knowledge.Survivors include his wife, Mary(Mason)Fields, two daughters, Alberta(Laurie)Witcher of Seattle; Diane Burlingame of Bremerton; one son, Bruce Fields of Bremerton; one sister, Anita Lex of Renton, Washington; four granddaughters, Christine and Erica Witcher of Seattle, and Sarah and Jayme Burlingame of Bremerton; two grandsons, Aaron and Kelly Fields of Yuma, Arizona, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael J. Fields, and his parents, Elmer and Edith Fields, and brother, Glen Fields.A memorial service, celebrating his life, will be held at Rill Chapel, 1151 Mitchell Avenue in Port Orchard, on Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at 12:30 p.m.. Burial arrangements are entrusted to Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home with interment at Sunset Lane Cemetery, Port Orchard, following the memorial service.
