Delmar Eugene Reed passed away at Park Vista Assisted Living Home in Port Orchard. He was 93.
Delmar was born in Boyd, Wisconsin to Verner and Ella Reed. He has a sister Dorine Fournier of Puyallup, WA and a brother Marvin Reed of Orofino, ID. His parents proceeded him in death as well as sisters Mildred and Ione. He is also survived by his three children, Ron (Shirley) of Bremerton, WA., Larry (Irma) of Bradenton, Fl., and Sharon (Phil) Thompson of Port Orchard, WA. He has four grandchildren, Scott, Jeremy, Jason, and Angela.
Delmar moved with his family to the Olympia, WA area at a young age. He was a gifted athlete in several sports. When WW-II broke out he joined the Army Air Corp and became a tail gunner on a B-24 Liberator stationed in England. Actor Jimmy Stewart was his commanding officer.
After the war, he started working at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as an electrician and ended up as a nuclear inspector. Delmar was an extremely hard worker. He was a great provider for his growing family. After working in the shipyard all day he would eat dinner and then go deeply into the woods to pick salal brush. It was told that he was the best brush picker in the whole area. He passed his work ethic onto his children and grandchildren.
He had a great sense of humor which he also passed down to his family. He would easily make friends wherever he went. Delmar loved coaching kids in basketball and baseball. He was an avid bowler and golfer. He loved the game of horseshoes. Jeremy, his grandson spent a lot of time skiing with him in the Cascades.
In his later years he spent a lot of time traveling with the love of his life, Vera Rawlings. He found his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ later on in life. He was always praying for his family and others. He was a giver and was always willing to help others. Delmar is now with Jesus enjoying family and friends who have gone on before him. Until we see you again, Dad, we will miss you.
