Dennis was born and raised in Stockton California. When he was in Jr. high Dennis and his father moved to Los Angeles where he graduated from Washington High School. Later attending Cal Poly SLO, graduating with a degree in Architectural Engineering. After graduation, in 1968 he married Cathy (Anderson). In 1969 they moved to Washington, where he was employed in the Design Division of PSNS for 40 years. They had 2 daughters, Tricia Marie Moen (deceased 2011) and Anne Michelle Moen. They spent 56 wonderful years as sweethearts and partners.
Dennis’ activities centered around his family and his Church. Over the years he served on Church Council, and sang in the choir. Dennis and Cathy directed and worked with children and teen youth groups. Most recently he was a member of North Bay Lutheran Community Church, in Allyn. He was active with both Bible Studies and fellowship activities.
Many of our beloved family times with Dennis involved tent and Westfalia camping where we enjoy water activities by day and games by the campfire at night. Yearly we would camp in the Redwoods to meet up with friends from So. Calif. During the evenings he would enjoy singing, telling stories and roasting s’mores. Often, camping and road tripping down to San Diego to visit family, we sang along with John Denver, the Kingston Trio and other of Dennis’ favorites. Dennis was an ideal travel companion; he packed the car meticulously (engineer thinking), was willing to stop for sightseeing and shopping and most importantly for traveling with 3 women, was willing to make frequent pit stops.
Once becoming a grandpa, he found his old baseball glove and began teaching the kids how to throw and catch. He attended many of their sports and would always be proud of his grandkids no matter the outcome.
Dennis’ family and friends will miss his calm demeanor, his warm smile, sense of humor and the twinkle in his eyes. He loved to study the Bible and he showed his faith in the way he lived his life and the way he treated everyone he met.
His calmness, kindness, and a sense of humor was with him to his last days as he battled his illness. Dennis would muster up the strength to smile and make the Hospice Nurses laugh until the end. To the hospice personnel, his family will be forever grateful for your kindness and helpfulness.
Dennis is survived by his wife Cathy; his Daughter Anne Moen; and grandchildren Felicity Fowler and Haven Fowler.
