PFC Devon James Gibbons, 19, of Port Orchard died June 23, 2006 at Fort Sam in Houston, Texas from wounds he suffered on April 11th in Iraq when a roadside bomb detonated near the Bradley Fighting Vehicle he was driving. He was born on January 3, 1987 in Tacoma, Washington to Melvin & Bonnie (Bligh) Gibbons. After graduating from South Kitsap High School in 2005, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served at Fort Knox in Kentucky and Fort Hood in Texas before deploying to Iraq in March. Surviving are his parents; brothers Ryan (Bethany) of Linden, Utah, David (Cary) of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Andrew, Adam & Jacob, all of Port Orchard; niece Alessia; and nephews Jarom and Ethan. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, June 30, 2006 at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Mullenix Road in Port Orchard, with visitation from Noon to 1:00 pm prior to the service time.
