Donald (Don) L. Winn

October 29, 1931 — June 12, 2016

On June 12, 2016, Don lost his life after a short stay in a nursing home. Don was born October 29, 1931 to Durward F. Winn and Leona Winn in Colton, Nebraska. He graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1949, where he belonged to the ROTC. He joined the Army in 1952 until 1954, during that time he served in the Korean War where he served as a Military Policeman. Prior to his time in the military, he married Patsy Moll and had two boys, Michael and Matthew. They divorced and he later married Marie Eleanor Colgan. Don and Marie had two children, Martin and Lori.
After discharging from the Army, Don went to work for Kaiser Aluminum until he went to work for the U.S Government at Mare Island, CA. In 1968, the family moved to Port Orchard, Washington where Don worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a Ship fitter. Don retired in October of 1991 and Marie retired shortly after. After retiring, Don and Marie bought a 5th wheel trailer and worked at various RV resorts across the country, for several years, meeting many new friends.
Other interests that Don had included, belonging to the Elks Club, bowling, golfing, fishing, skiing, leatherworking, in which he made beautiful bible covers for the pastors at his church and many beautiful gifts for family and friends.
He also loved going on cruises. He and Marie went on several cruises to many beautiful places including the Panama Canal, Alaska, Caribbean and many trips to Hawaii.
Don loved going on annual fishing trips to Banff, Canada with his friends Terry Lambert, Red Rassmussen and his father, Durward. He looked forward to the annual event and always wagered who, out of all of them, would catch the biggest fish. One year, he caught a 54-lb salmon followed by a 24-lb salmon, needless to say, the family ate a lot of salmon that year! Not only was the fishing a challenge to all of them but Don loved cooking for his friends as well.
Don also enjoyed golfing on the Elks Club Twilight League, as well as golfing for fun with Marie and his boys, Matt and Martin.
Don was one of the first of many season ticket-holders to the Seahawks and enjoyed attending the games with his family and still enjoyed watching the games from the comfort of home.
Don also had a special place in his heart for his beloved cat, Little Guy.
Don is survived by and will be missed by his family. Survivors include his wife, Marie, his sons Michael (Jeanette) Winn of Silverdale, Matthew Winn of Flagstaff, AZ, Martin (Traci) Winn of Langley, and his daughter Lori Winn of Silverdale. He is also survived by five grandchildren Jason Winn, Katie (Nick) Matteson, Hailie (Jack) Meehan, Brandi (Jeff) Smith, and Lexi Jordan.
