Donald Byron Olson, 75 of Port Orchard, Washington died in Bremerton, Washingtonn on March 12, 2007. He was born in Frederick, South Dakota on August 20, 1931 to Oscar & Daisy (Jameison) Olson. He married Merceda "Marci" Sihrer on August 23, 1950 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Donald worked for 33 years at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton as a Rigger/Diver General Foreman, retiring in 1985. He was the Head of Civilian Divers for the shipyard performing all underwater repair and maintenance. Donald enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing & diving, swimming, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Olympic Langers Diving Club in Bremerton, Olympic Langers Search and Rescue, Sons of Norway in Bremerton, a Volunteer Firefighter for Port Orchard, and Cub Scoutmaster in Port Orchard. Surviving are his wife Marci; son Donald (Patty) Olson of Bremerton; daughters Debbie (Rudy) Werle of Federal Way and Rhonda (Dennis) Desmond of Port Orchard; brothers Leonard (Francis), Kermit (Nadine), Eldon (Carole), and Jim (Mary) Olson; sisters Evelyn Hersom, Helen (Curtis) Garrett, and Alice (Paul) Hopfinger; grandchildren Donnie, Whitney, Corbin, Marci & Jeff; and great-grandchild Richie. He was preceded in death by son Roger in 1981, 5 brothers and a sister. Visitation will be at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard on Thursday March 15th from Noon to 5:00 pm and Friday March 16th from 9:00am until the funeral service which will be at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kitsap Humane Society.
