Donald Gordon Smith, 84, a resident of Port Orchard, died peacefully at home on Sunday, March 11, 2012. He was born March 13, 1927 in Quincy, MA to Robert and Gladys (Walters) Smith, the youngest of four children. He married Joan R. Marty on August 2, 1958 in MA they had two children. Donald served in the United States Navy during WWII and Korea attaining the rank of Senior Chief Engineman (E-8). He was awarded numerous medals including six good conduct, Korean and China service medals to name a few. He served in many capacities during his Naval career including Chief Master-at-Arms, Tug Master and finally as Manager of the CPO Mess at PSNS. After retiring, he went on to serve as manager for the Officer’s Club, Pizzeria and Bowling Alley and CPO Mess. He is survived by daughter Patti Leischner (Tracy) and son William Smith; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; brother Norman Smith of MA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan in November of 2011. Viewing will be Friday, March 16 at Rill Chapel form 11:00 am to 2:00 pm followed by burial at Sunset Lane at 2:30 pm.
